Configure the Folder Auto-clean Feature

The folder auto-clean feature in SmarterMail is designed to help Email administrators keeping mailbox size(s) under control. Using folder auto-clean, common folders like the Junk E-mail, Sent Items and Deleted items can be regularly purged of old messages so they do not clutter user mailboxes. Email administrators can configure folder auto-clean to allow users and domains to override suggested settings or to require them to follow set policies.

Follow these steps to enable the folder auto-clean settings on the domain level:

  1. Log in to the SmarterMail web interface (http://webmail.yourdomainame.com) as the domain administrator.
  2. Click the Setting button.
  3. Click Domain Settings
  4. Under Filteringclick the Folder Auto-Clean button.
  5. Click the toggle to enable override for this domain.
  6. Click the New Rule button.
  7. First select the folder you'd like to apply folder auto-clean functionality to.
  8. Under the Type drop-down menu, select a trigger for this rule. Here you'll select the size of the folder you'd like to maintain, or a period of mail you'd like to retain.
  9. Add the trigger size or period of days.
  10. When finished, click the Save button.
 
Follow these steps to enable the folder auto-clean settings on the Individual level:
 
  1. Log into SmarterMail web interface (http://webmail.yourdomainame.com) with the email account you want to apply the folder auto-clean settings to.
  2. Click the Setting button.
  3. Click My Settings.
  4. Under Filteringclick the Folder Auto-Clean button.
  5. Click the toggle to enable override for this account.
  6. Click the New Rule button.
  7. First select the folder you'd like to apply folder auto-clean functionality to.
  8. Under the Type drop-down menu, select a trigger for this rule. Here you'll select the size of the folder you'd like to maintain, or a period of mail you'd like to retain.
  9. Add the trigger size or period of days.
  10. When finished, click the Save button.
